He was serving with No 8 Balloon Centre and died on the way to hospital having suffered a fractured skull when he fell from the back of a RAF lorry when it was involved in a collision with a baker's van at Great Eccleston in Lancashire.   He is buried in Sellindge (or Sellinge) (St Mary) Churchyard.
