MACKAY, DUNCAN RONALD GORDON DFC

He was leading a raid against railway targets at Ehrang in DH4, F5725 of No 55 Sqn on 10 November 1918.  After bombing the target, they turned for home and Mackay was hit by a shell splinter, necessitating his observer to take control of the aircraft, which he successfully brought down on the German side of the lines.  They were both made prisoners, but Mackay died of his wounds the following day.  He is buried in  Joeuf Communal Cemetery.

He was flying DH9, D3263 of No 104 Sqn on a raid against railway targets at Metz Sablon.  Having dropped their bombs, they turned for home but were almost immediately attacked by fighters and Mackenzie was seen to go down out of control.  Both he and his observer were killed and are buried in Chambieres French National Cemetery, Metz.
