He was the pilot of DH9, E632 of No 99 Sqn on a raid against railway targets at Metx Sablon.  They were attacked by enemy fighters and except for three aircraft which returned early with technical problems the whole formation was lost with Gilbert being killed.  He is buried in Ste Ruffine Communal Cemetery.

He was Observer to 2 Lt C E W Thresher in DH9, C3040 of No 99 Sqn on a raid against Buhl Aerodrome on 6 Nov 1918. Their aircraft was shot down forcing Thresher to force land inside the German lines.  Both crew were wounded and captured but Glew died of his wounds the following day and is buried in Sarralbe Military Cemetery.
