He had been serving in the Far East and died in Japanese captivity whilst being held in a camp in the Tokyo area of Japan.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.

He had been serving in the Far East and died in Japanese captivity from acute colitis whilst being held in Hakodate Main Camp at the Bibai Coal Mine, Hokkaido, Japan.  He is buried in Yokohama War Cemetery.
