He was serving with No 44 Air School and drowned in an accident at Belmont Valley near Grahamstown.  He is buried in Grahamstown New Cemetery.

He was killed whilst flying in Oxford I, BG196 of the 14 (P) AFU, which crashed on the edge of Ossington airfield after retracting to flaps too soon on an overshoot at night.  He is buried in Bagnall (St Chad) Churchyard.
