He was killed whilst flying an unidentified Wapiti of No 84 Sqn, which crashed during a night landing at Shaibah.  He is buried in Basra (Makina) R.A.F. Cemetery.

Cpl JEFFERY, THOMAS WILLIAM PENNY AFM He was killed whilst flying Wapiti IIA, J9380 of No 39 Sqn, which crashed at Rifaltur during a practice for the forthcoming air pageant in Delhi when a large eagle flew into the machine, breaking a strut, causing the wings to collapse.  He attempted to jump out before the crash but his parachute caught in the fuselage.

He was the OC of 209 Sqn and was killed whilst flying in Blackburn Iris, N238, which crashed in Batten Bay, Plymouth Sound after he took control of the aircraft during landing when he wasn't the pilot in command.  Eight other were also killed, six of whose bodies were not recovered.

He was killed whilst under instruction in Atlas, K1187 of the RAF College, Cranwell, his instructor being Fg Off A F P Anning.  They were carrying out a gliding turn during approach for a practice forced landing when they lost flying speed.  The court of inquiry decided that the instructor, left the correction of this fault until it was too late to recover the aircraft from the resulting dive.

Having carried out an inspection of RAF Tangmere, he had taken off in his De Havilland Moth (K1838), with his PA flying another Moth when a formation of Siskins of No 43 Sqn, seeing his PA’s aircraft decided to pay him an aerial salute.  Unfortunately, the formation dived directly at the AVM, whom they could not see and  the Siskin on the left of the formation, flown by Sgt C G Wareham, caught the wing of his Moth.  Going into a spin, the pilot recovered and the AVM took to his parachute, but they were too low, the AVM being killed when he hit the ground without a fully deployed parachute and his pilot, Flt Lt H M Moody, when the aircraft hit the ground.  The inquest brought a verdict of accidental death.

He was a director of Imperial Airways (South Africa) Ltd when he was killed whilst flying Puss Moth, ZU-ACC, which crashed at Van Reenan, Natal in the Drakenburg Mountains during a storm.

AC1 MERRIMAN, ALEXANDER BROWNLOW He was killed when he abandoned an Atlas, ? of No 13 Sqn when it lost its engine as a result of vibration caused by a broken propeller as it was about to land at Netheravon.  The pilot parachuted safely but Merriman didn't.

WAGHORN, HENRY RICHMOND DANVERS AFC

He was testing a Hawker Horsley, J8932 fitted with an alternative engine with a Mr Alexander of the RAE on 5 May 1931, when the aircraft became uncontrollable and they were forced to abandon it at around 500 ft.  Waghorn waited for Alexander to jump before himself leaving the aircraft and he suffered injuries when he hit a building, from which he died two days later.

He was killed flying Blackburn Dart, N9997 of No 464 Flt whilst returning to HMS Courageous following a mock attack on the Fleet.  As he broke formation to land, his aircraft stalled and collided with N9995, both crashing into the Moray Firth from 800 ft.

He was serving as the Pilotage Officer with No 101 Sqn, which was attending the armament training camp at RAF Catfoss, when he was found lying dead on the grass verge beside a damaged sports car between Beeford and Brandesburton.  It appears he had been thrown out of the car following the bursting of the near side front tyre as he was travelling back to the camp from Bridlington.

He was killed whilst flying an unidentified Siskin of No 41 Sqn.  He had been flying at the Folkestone Searchlight Tattoo, in an aircraft lit up with coloured lights and on his return to Hawkinge, it developed engine trouble and overturned on landing, bursting into flames and burning out.

He was killed in a flying accident in Supermarine S6, N247, which had won the 1929 Schneider Trophy Race and also held the world air speed record at that time.  The aircraft began to 'porpoise' on take off and on the third attempt to lift off the aircraft left the water but immediately nose dived into the sea and turned over.

He was killed whilst flying as the observer of Blackburn Ripon, S1467 of No 461 Flt.  They had been carrying out  a dummy torpedo attack on a ship when the pilot of the aircraft was blinded by jettisoned fuel and dived into the sea near Farmgusta, Cyprus.  His pilot, Lt Cdr F S Benney RN was also killed.

He was killed whilst flying an Atlas, (K1017 or J9526) of No 13 Sqn, which collided with another of the same unit near Tidworth during a formation change.  He is buried in Netheravon (All Saints) Churchyard .

He was serving as a medical officer at the RAF Hospital, Halton and died there from injuries sustained on 30 October in a motorcycle accident between Tring and Berkhamstead.  In the collision with another vehicle he was thrown in front of an approaching bus, and his machine caught fire.

He died from injuries sustained on 24 November in a flying accident whilst flying Atlas, K1499 of the RAF College, Cranwell.  He was practicing at a relief landing ground and is thought to have stalled in a climbing turn from a height of 100-200 ft, thereby having insufficient height to regain control.
