RAF Casualties 1919 - L


In the list below some non-commissioned personnel are shown with two ranks, the first is generally that shown in the CWGC Register whilst the one in brackets is that shown on their records or what it should have become on 1 January 1919 when the RAF introduced a new rank/classification structure for non-commissioned personnel.  Where only one rank is shown this appears on both the CWGC register and the service records.

A Rigger (Aero), he died from influenza whilst serving with No 18 Sqn and is buried in Maubeuge-Centre Cemetery.

LAMSDALE, FREDERICK CHESTERTON (124323)

He had been discharged on 18 Feb 1919 from the Dispersal Centre, Clipstone, his cause of death being unknown at present and is buried in Stone Cemetery, Staffordshire.  Prior to discharge he had been serving as a Batman with No 6 School of Aeronautics.

He died from influenza in the 4th Northern General Hospital, Lincoln whilst serving with No 46 Training Depot Station and is buried in Kingsnorth (St Michael) Churchyard.

He had been invalided out of the service in August and died at home, 5 Ravine Terrace, Sunderland, he is buried in Sunderland (Ryhope Road) Cemetery.  Prior to being invalided he had been serving as an Admin Officer at Halton Camp.

He was killed whilst flying Short 184, N9090 seaplane which failed to recover from a spin during an ait test whilst serving in North Russia and is buried in Archangel Allied Cemetery.

He died at home from pneumonia whilst on leave from the Reinforcement Park, prior to which he had served as a Motor Cyclist with 107 Sqn and is buried in Sherborne Cemetery.

He had been discharged from the Dispersal Centre, Blandford on 24 Feb 1919 but died in the County of Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury from epilepsy and is buried in St Albans Cemetery.  Prior to his discharge he had served as a Labourer with No 1 Aircraft Depot.

He died in hospital, cause unknown, whilst serving as a Labourer at RAF Calshot and is buried in Wandsworth (Streatham) Cemetery.

He died from influenza whilst serving as a Labourer with the Aero Service Unit and is buried in Charleroi Communal Cemetery.

He had been discharged on 29 Mar 1919 suffering from carcinoma of the tongue, from which he presumably died and is buried in Portsmouth (Eastney or Highland Road) Cemetery.  Prior to discharge he was serving as a Labourer with No 143 Sqn.

He is believed to have drowned whilst flying in Airship NS11 of the Airship Experimental Station at Pulham, which caught fire in the air and crashed into the sea, he is buried in Gosport (Ann's Hill) Cemetery.  His records have not yet been found.

He was killed whilst flying Avro 504, B4368 of No 3 Training Depot Station, which crashed from 300 ft on turning downwind following an engine failure and is buried in Andover Cemetery.

He died in the Cottage Hospital, Southport from tuberculosis and peritonitis whilst serving with No 2 Sqn and is buried in Southport (St Cuthbert) Churchyard.

He is presumed to have drowned when he came down in the sea five miles off Dublin whilst delivering an aircraft from Shotwick to Ireland and he is commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton.

He was serving with HQ, Palestine Brigade when he drowned whilst bathing in Jaffa and is buried in the Ramleh War Cemetery.
