RAF Casualties 1919 - M


The fatal casualties listed below are those shown on the Commonwealth War Graves Register as having died due to World War One, however they can be divided into two distinct groups.

The first group are those who were still on active service at the time of their death and the second those who had been demobilised but whose death was attributed to their war service.

Group 1 - Died on active service

He died in Shorncliffe Military Hospital from pneumonia whhilst serving with No 3 Sqn and is buried in Ripley Cemetery, Ontario.

MacDOUGALL, DUGALD DFC

He was serving on board HMS Pegasus but detached to HMS Glowworm and was killed whilst the ship's company was fighting a fire on a barge containing ammunition, which exploded, he is buried in Archangel Allied Cemetery.

He was killed in an air-crash in France, probably whilst serving with No 6 Sqn and is buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez.

He was killed whilst flying DH9, D1180 of No 4 School of Navigation and Bomb Dropping which side-slipped into the ground and is buried in Swindon (Christ Church) Burial Ground.

He died in Toronto General Hospital following an operationresulting from injuries sustained in a motor accident and is buried in Listowel (Fairview) Cemetery.

He died from injuries sustained whilst flying in DH9, E8994 of No 47 Sqn during service in Southern Russia, he was originally buried at Ekakarinador but is now commemmorated on the Haidar Pasha Memorial.

He was killed whilst flying Avro 504, H1933 of No 204 Training Depot Station, which dived into the ground whilst attempting to make a steep turn at low level and is buried in Leysdown (St Clement) Churchyard.

He was killed whilst flying in Porte Super Baby flying boat of No 4 Communication Sqn, which crashed on take off en-roiute to Africa and is buried in Felixstowe (SS. Peter and Paul) Churchyard.
