RAF Casualties 1919 - K


The fatal casualties listed below are those shown on the Commonwealth War Graves Register as having died due to World War One, however they can be divided into two distinct groups.

The first group are those who were still on active service at the time of their death and the second those who had been demobilised but whose death was attributed to their war service.

Group 1 - Died on active service

KANN, RAYMOND VICTOR

He was killed whilst flying Snipe, E6200 of the Central Flying School, which crashed after stalling in a climbing turn and is buried in Hampstead Cemetery

KAVANAGH, CHARLES FRANCIS

He was serving as a staff officer at the Air Ministry and died in the RAF Central Hospital from malaria, he is buried in Hampstead Cemetery.

KELLINGTON, A G

He was serving with No 2 (Northern) Aircraft Depot and was killed by a train in the NER line at Welton, he is buried in Welton Church Cemetery.

KELLOUGH, WILLIAM ROY

He was killed whilst flying a Bristol F2B of No 88 Sqn and is buried in Charleroi Communal Cemetery.

He died from influenza whilst serving with ASU and is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille.

He died of influenza at No 10 General Hospital in France, whilst serving with No 3 Sqn and attached to No. 1 Aerial Range.  He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery

He died in No 17 Casualty Clearing Station from pneumonia whilst serving with No 12 Sqn and is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery.

He did from cerebral meningitis whilst serving with No 2 Balloon Section and is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery.

He was killed whilst flying in a Bristol F2B of No 48 Sqn asnd is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery.

KEYMER, BASIL GRAHAM HOMFRAY DFC and Bar

He was killed in action whilst flying DH9A, F1086 of 'A' Detachment, RAF Instructional Mission South Russia when a bomb dropped from its rack and exploded shortly after take off from Beketovka, he is commemorated on the Haidar Pasha Memorial.

KILBY, ALAN JEFFERY

He died in Lincoln County Hospital from osteomyelitis of the femur whilst serving with the Boys Training Wing (Cranwell) and is buried in Leicester (Belgrave) Cemetery.

KIME, GILBERT HENRY ERNEST

He died from septic pneumonia whilst serving with No 10 Sqn and is buried in Woodgrange Park Cemetery, East Ham.

KING, CECIL FREDERICK MC, DFC

Having served in WW1 and achieved 19 victories, he was employed as an instructor with No 3 Fighting School, when he was killed in a mid-air collison whilst flying Camel, C8318 at Sedgeford in Norfolk.  He was buried with full Military honours in Docking (St Mary) Churchyard.

He died from bronchopneumonia whilst serving with No 25 Sqn and is buried in Maubeuge (Sous-le-Bois) Cemetery.

KINSELLA, GERALD

He died from bronchopneumonia in No 20 Casualty Clearing Station whilst serving with No 42 Sqn and is buried in Charleroi Communal Cemetery.

KIRBY, ERIC JOHN CAMPBELL

He died fronm injuries sustained whilst flying Bristol F2B, E1902, which crashed in an attempted forced landing following n engine failure and is buried in Leuchars Cemetery.

KNIGHT, CHARLES RAYMOND WENTWORTH

He died from wounds in captivity as a PoW sustained at Topsa and is buried in Archangel Allied Cemetery.

KNOTT, E MIDDLETON

He sustained serious injuries whilst flying a DH4A of No 1 Communication Sqn, which crashed on take off from Kenley following an engine failure.  He was extracted from the wreckage by his passenger, Maj-Gen Sir Frederick Sykes but died on the way to hospital and is buried in Sutton Coldfield Cemetery.

He died in No 55 Casualty Clearing Station from influenza whilst serving with No 211 Sqn and is buried in Charleroi Communal Cemetery.

He was killed whilst flying Bristol F2B, E2764 of No 141 Sqn, which crashed on landing and is buried in Grangegorman Military Cemetery.

He died from cerebral spinal meningitis whilst serving with the APD at Spinola and is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery.

He died from injuries sustained in a motor cycle accident the previous day whilst serving with No 14 Training Depot Station and is buried in Durrington Cemetery.

Group 2 - Died after demobilisation. Units shown in this section are probably the last unit on which they served prior to demobilisation.
