RAF Casualties 1919 - C


In the list below some non-commissioned personnel are shown with two ranks, the first is generally that shown in the CWGC Register whilst the one in brackets is that shown on their records or what it should have become on 1 January 1919 when the RAF introduced a new rank/classification structure for non-commissioned personnel.  Where only one rank is shown this appears on both the CWGC register and the service records.

He was killed whilst flying DH10, E5557 of No 2 Aircraft Acceptance Park, which crashed and burst into flames at Hendon, he is buried in Kirk Malew (St Malew) Churchyard.

He was serving as a Staff Officer at HQ, Malta and died from influenza in Aldershot Military Hospital whilst on leave, he is buried in Aldershot Military Cemetery.

He died, cause unknown, probably during a home leave having recently served as a Rigger (Aero) with No 2 Aeroplane Supply Depot and is buried in Smethwick (Uplands) Cemetery.

He appears to have been discharged from the RAF on 18 Sep 1918 having been a Carpenter at 36th Wing ARS.  He died from tuberculosis and is buried in Kilvickeon Old Churchyard, Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon, Isle of Mull

He was drowned whilst flying in North Sea Airship No XI, which caught fire and fell into the sea, during a mine sweeper operation, he is commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton.

He was serving aboard HMS Vindictive and is was killed in action at Krasnaya Gorka on the south shore of Petrograd Bay, he is commemorated on the Archangel Memorial.

He was serving as a Fitter (Aero Engine) at No 1 Aircraft Acceptance Park in Coventry and died from injuries sustained whilst flying in Avro 504K, F2593, which side-slipped then dived into the ground as the result of a loss of flying speed following an engine failure.  He is buried in Kettering (London Road) Cemetery.
