SABEY, ALBERT ROBERT

He was the Observer of DH9, D7210 of No 104 Sqn, flown by 2 Lt W E L Courtney on a raid against the BASF works in Mannheim on 7 Sep 1918.  They were attacked by fighters after dropping their bombs and they were forced down.  Courtney became a PoW, but Sabey having either been hit in the air or injured in the landing died four days later and is buried in Sarralbe Military Cemetery.

SWANSON, GEORGE WILLIAM

He was drowned when the RMS Leinster was sunk by a U-boat in the Irish Sea whilst serving with No 23 Training Sqn, having been a pilot and then a technical officer.  However, he is also recorded as having resigned his RAF commission in May in order to return to his regiment.  He is commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton.

He was the pilot of DH4, B7866 of No 55 Sqn on a raid against Saarbrucken.  After dropping his bombs he was attacked by a German fighter and large pieces of fabric were seen tearing away causing his aircraft to go down out of control.  He is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille.
