SABEY, ALBERT ROBERT

He was the Observer of DH9, D7210 of No 104 Sqn, flown by 2 Lt W E L Courtney on a raid against the BASF works in Mannheim on 7 Sep 1918.  They were attacked by fighters after dropping their bombs and they were forced down.  Courtney became a PoW, but Sabey having either been hit in the air or injured in the landing died four days later and is buried in Sarralbe Military Cemetery.

He was the pilot of DH9A, F986 of No 110 Sqn on a raid on Frankfurt.  He and his observer, 2 Lt W J Brain,  were the only crew killed on this, their first operation, but another six aircraft were shot down, their crews being captured.  He is buried in Niederezwehren Cemetery.

He was the Observer of DH9, B7653 of No 104 Sqn, flown by 2 Lt J E Kemp on a raid against the BASF works in Mannheim on 7 Sep 1918.  They were attacked by fighters after dropping their bombs and they were forced down.  Kemp became a PoW, but Smailes having either been hit in the air or injured in the landing died six days later and is buried in Niederzwehren Cemetery.
