Having recently qualified as a pilot he was posted to No 43 Sqn on 13 April.  He was practicing ground strafing when the wings of his aircraft (Camel, D1819) folded back on him and he was killed instantly.  He is buried in Avesnes-le-Comte  Communal Cemetery Extension.

He was killed in action whilst flying in FE2b, D9929 of No 101 Sqn, which failed to return from a night bombing raid and is buried in St Erme Communal Cemetery Extension.
