A member of No 55 Sqn, he was observer to 2 Lt J B Dunn flying DH4, B3967, on 25 August on a raid to Cologne.  The target was changed to railways in Luxembourg due to strong winds.  After dropping their bombs the formation was attacked by six Pfalz scouts and Sgt Allan was wounded. He died of his wounds two days later and is buried in Charmes Military Cemetery, Essegney.  He had also been awarded the French Médaille Militaire.

He was the observer of DH9, D7233 of No 99 Sqn, piloted by Sgt H H Wilson on a raid against Conflans rail junction and Doncourt Aerodrome on 30 Aug 1918.  However their aircraft suffered a fuel problem and they put down on a French airfield.  The following day their aircraft stalled on take off and both he and his pilot were killed in the ensuing crash.  He is buried in Charmes Military Cemetery, Essegney.

AMEY, ALFRED EDWARD

He was a member of No 55 Sqn and was flying as observer to 2 Lt W E Johns (famous for creating 'Biggles') in DH4, F5712 on a raid against the Lanz Aero Works at Mannheim.  Hit by flak over the lines, their aircraft was running short of fuel and turned for home.  However, they were attacked by seven Fokker DVIIs and both were wounded in the attack.  The aircraft burst into flames but Johns was able to force land, but Amey had already died of his wounds.  He is buried in Sarralbe Military Cemetery.
