1934 he flew one of two Valentias which supported four 84 Squadron Wapitis led
by Stanley Vincent, in the first re-inforcement flight to Singapore.
During this flight, his aircraft suffered a oil leak forcing him to make
an emergency landing on the only beach for 300 miles. He was able to repair the leak with chewing gum and take off
