He was awarded RAeC No 377 on 17 December 1912.  On 22 Jan 1915, he  possibly downed an Albatross with his rifle, but the shot could also have been fired by Capt F V Holt.   He married Helen Bulpett at Yatesbury Church on 29 April 1919.  He retired at his own request.
