On 9 November 1921 he was seriously injured whilst flying Parnall Panther, N7468.  He was about to fly off the turret of HMS Repulse for a fleet reconnaissance and as he was running up the engine but before he was ready to slip, the port wing tilted up and the quick release wire carried away, the machine toppling over the side of the turret, crashing on No 1 electric bollard on the fore-castle deck.

Retired on account of being medically unfit for Air Force Service
