Served in Balloon unit(s) at some point in WW1.  Following retirement he became Supplies Manager, British Overseas Airways Corporation from 1947 to 1956.

Citation for the award of Officer of the Order of the British Empire

CUSHION, William Boston, S/L - awarded as per London Gazette dated 3 June 1927 in Birthday Honours List; reported in Aeroplane dated 8 June 1927.

"Squadron Leader Cushion has carried out in a most praiseworthy manner the duties of Senior Stores Officer at Air Headquarters, India, for over four years.  He completely reorganized the whole supply system of the Royal Air Force in that country and by his exceptional ability and energy created a thoroughly efficient organisation.  His work has been exceptional and of great benefit to the Royal Air Force both in India and elsewhere."
