Announcement (1) and recommendation (2) for the award of the Air Force Cross: -

CHISMAN, Leonard de Ville, S/L (03181) - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 21 December 1937.

(1) "For gallant and distinguished services rendered in connection with the operations in Waziristan during the period 17th January to 15th September 1937".

(2)"The excellent work of No.20 (Army Cooperation) Squadron is due to the example set by the Squadron Commander - Squadron Leader L. de V. Chisman.

He has taken his turn with his pilots on all flying duties and has shown a complete disregard for his personal safety when the occasion demanded.  The encouragement given by him to his officers and men resulted in his squadron compiling a total of 919 flying hours during May 1937.

His cheerfulness and happy manner have infected the whole squadron with the result that he gets the very best from all serving under him at all times.

His work in the operations has thoroughly merited the award of a Distinguished Flying Cross."
