He was serving with No 4147 Servicing Echelon and suffered broken ribs after falling  from a tractor at Croydon airfield.  Admitted to Croydon General Hospital. who failed to detect this, he was placed on two weeks sick leave and then returned to duty, but collapsed and died after readmission to the Hospital  He is buried in High Wycombe Cemetery.
