He had been a member of No 190 and was shot down over Arnhem whilst flying in Stirling IV, EF260 on 20 Sep 1944. He was hidden from the Germans by the Dutch Resistance and later repatriated to the UK but during his time in Holland he was hidden in a chicken run and sustained scratches from the chickens.  On his return he was admitted to hospital due to the scratches having become infected resulting in his death from septicaemia.  He is buried in or was cremated at Hendon Cemetery and Crematorium.
