He was killed whilst flying in Halifax II, W7928 of No 1669 HCU, which he abandoned over the Bristol Channel after it encountered an electrical storm, but the pilot was later able to land safely at RAF Chivenor, his body was never recovered.  He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
