He was admitted to No 63 General Hospital whilst serving at Polish Technical School, where he was diagnosed with renal tuberculosis and had the kidney removed but his other kidney was barely functioning and he died under anaesthetic before another operation.  He is buried in Tel el Kebir War Memorial Cemetery.
