He was serving with No 293 Sqn, and was attempting to rescue the pilot of a Thunderbolt which had struck a Spitfire on landing.  Whilst stood in front of the Spitfire, its guns fired and he was seriously injured, later dying in 11th Evacuation Hospital.  He is buried in Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio.

He was killed whilst serving with No 6205 BD Flt, during the landing on Omaha Beach during Operation Overlord on board Keyser boat 390.  He is buried in Bayeux War Cemetery.
