He relinquished his commission on grounds of ill health on 1 Aug 1940 so his death was probably connected to this.  His death is registered in Devizes.  He was cremated at  Bristol (Arnos Vale) Crematorium.

He was serving in the UK and was dead on arrival at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, having been found 'in a collapsed state' at his home from suspected coal gas poisoning.  He is buried in Leicester (Gilroes) Cemetery.
