He was serving with No 12 Sqn and died from burns sustained on 24 June when a can of petrol was accidentally ignited by a faulty magneto on Wellington II, Z8375, which was being serviced in a hanger.  Managing to drag the burning can away from the aircraft, he succeeded in saving it but was severely burned in the process.  He is buried in Cranwell (St Andrew) Churchyard.
