Initially admitted to No 2 Indian CCS he was transported to No 58 General Hospital with his head restrained between sandbags but died 1 hour after admission. His prognosis was poor but it was felt that the lack of adequate immobilization and rough road journey had proved fatal. A post mortem found complete fractures of the 5th cervical vertebrae with a pulped spinal cord and the free fragment of spine had been forced down by jolting.  He is buried in El Alamein War Cemetery.
