He was killed whilst flying Wallace, K6067 of No 3 Armament Training Station when he undershot on landing at Sutton Bridge and overturned after hitting a bank.  His crewman, LAC Edward Lawrence Wade was only slightly injured in the accident.

He was killed in a mid-air collision whilst flying in Swordfish, K5933 of No 825 Sqn, HMS Glorious being flown by Flt Lt A W Dobbs.  Their aircraft collided with Swordfish, K5976, also belonging to 825 Sqn and flown by Fg Off G C Newcombe.  Both aircraft crashed into the sea off Alexandria.

He died in Letchworth Hospital from injuries sustained on 26 Jan whilst flying Gladiator, K7930 of No 54 Sqn when his flew into high ground near Baldock, Herts during a snowstorm. He is buried in his family vault within the ruins of Brainshaugh Priory, Guyzance, Northumberland.

He was killed in a mid-air collision whilst flying Swordfish, K5933 of No 825 Sqn, HMS Glorious.  His aircraft collided with Swordfish, K5976, also belonging to 825 Sqn and flown by Fg Off G C Newcombe.  Both aircraft crashed into the sea off Alexandria. Also killed in Dobbs's aircraft were Fg Off H R P Bridgen and L/Sig H R Peerman RN.

He was reported missing believed killed in a mid-air collision whilst flying Swordfish, K5976 of No 825 Sqn, HMS Glorious.  His aircraft collided with Swordfish, K5933, also belonging to 825 Sqn and flown by Flt Lt A W Dobbs.  Both aircraft crashed into the sea off Alexandria.

He was killed in a mid-air collision whilst flying Swordfish, K5976 of No 825 Sqn, HMS Glorious.  His aircraft collided with Swordfish, K5933, also belonging to 825 Sqn and flown by Flt Lt A W Dobbs.  Both aircraft crashed into the sea off Alexandria. Also killed in Newcombe's aircraft were Lt J G Lincoln RN and L/Sea B A Coughlin RN.

A member of No 110 Sqn, he was killed whilst flying as a crewman in Blenheim I, L1155 of No 44 Sqn which crashed shortly after take off from North Coates, following an engine failure.  The aircraft was being flown by Flt Lt M E Withy, who was also killed.  The other crewman, AC2 Joseph Raymond was only slightly injured.

He was a member of the Experimental Section of the RAE at Farnborough and was killed in a flying accident near Martlesham Heath whilst test flying Harvard I, N7000 when it entered a spin and dived into the ground. A Senior Scientific Officer of the RAE, Mr. R. P. Alston, BA, AFRAeS was also killed. in the accident.
