He was killed whilst flying as second pilot in Singapore III, K3594 of No 205 Sqn when the aircraft was swung in order to avoid running aground during a night take off from the Jahore Straits and wing dug in.  The  rest of the crew were only slightly injured, these being, Sqn Ldr Albert Wentworth Bates (1st pilot), LAC William Trevor Davies, AC1 Joe Lee, AC1 Leonard Frank Wilkins, and AC1 Alexander Thomas Edward Daniells.  He is buried in Kranji Military Cemetery.

He was killed in a mid air collision with Swordfish, K5938 whilst flying Swordfish, K5947, both belonging to No 825 Sqn, HMS Glorious.  They had been carrying out a practice mass torpedo attack when one aircraft flew across the nose of the other.   Vardon's aircraft dived vertically into the sea.  Also killed  was Tel. Bert Overal RN.

He was killed whilst flying Blackburn Shark, K5619 of No 821 Sqn, HMS Courageous.  He had been on a Navex over the Mediterranean when he reported a failing engine.  An extensive search of the area failed to find any trace of the aircraft or its crew, which included Lt. R. W. MacDonald RN and Tel W. H Currie RN.

He was killed whilst flying in Fairey Gordon, K2741 of No 14 Sqn when it collided with another Gordon, K2618 whilst in formation.   The pilot of K2471 Flt Lt Michael Arthur Aylmer, successfully abandoned the aircraft uninjured. The other aircraft was landed safely at Amman.  He is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery.

Two Audax aircraft of No 4 Sqn, K2031 and K1997 collided near Wanborough, both pilots being able to abandon the aircraft by parachute.  AC1 Hall was the gunner in one of these aircraft and he was unable to leave it, being killed in the ensuing crash.  His pilot was Plt Off G V Smither, who was uninjured.

Two Audax aircraft of No 4 Sqn, K2031 and K1997 collided near Wanborough, both pilots being able to abandon the aircraft by parachute.  AC1 Hicks was the gunner in one of these aircraft and he was unable to leave it, being killed in the ensuing crash.  His pilot was Fg Off R N Smith, who was slightly injured.

He died in the British Military Hospital in Karachi whilst serving with No 31 Sqn.  He and a bank official were found shot in a guest house in Karachi. His wife was present and it was known that the two men had had "a long standing dispute over personal affairs".

He was killed whilst flying a Vildebeest, K4588 of No 22 Sqn, which collided with the other aircraft whilst on the bombing range at Skipsea.  K4588 lost a wing in the collision and both aircraft dived into the sea.  An extensive search failed to find the bodies of the three missing airmen (Plt Off. W H Cheetham, Sgt J Medd and Cpl C G Gurd).  His body was washed ashore at Cowden the following day and he was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium.

He was practicing circuits between Hal Far and Kalafrana in Malta in Walrus, K8345 of No 711 Flt, HMS London, when he struck power cables, which caused the starboard wing to collapse and the aircraft dived into the sea.  Both he and his passenger, LAC N S Burns, a squadron clerk, were killed.

He was a clerk on No 711 Flt, HMS London and was flying as a passenger in Walrus, K8345 of the same unit being piloted by Flt Lt P A Booth when it hit power cables and dived into the sea.  He and the pilot were both killed.

He was killed in a flying accident whilst flying Audax, K5159 of No 5 FTS when he collided with a church steeple in fog and crashed into a street in Everton, Liverpool.  He is buried in Hawarden (St Deiniol) Churchyard.

He was killed whilst flying Vincent, K4691 of No 47 Sqn, when he stalled in turbulent conditions and crashed at Pap in the Sudan.  His passenger, the Right Reverend H. Guy Bullen, MC, MA, Assistant Bishop of Egypt and Sudan, was also killed.  He is buried in Khartoum War Cemetery.

He was killed whilst flying (in) Heyford, K5183 (W) of No 102 Sqn when it flew into high ground whilst on a night approach into Honington. Plt Off B G L Betbeder was dangerously injured in the accident and died two days later.  The remaining crew members consisted of APO Laurence Herbert McFarlane and ACl Ernest Marrows, who were slightly injured and AC1 C. A. F. Kettle, who was uninjured.
