He was serving at RAF South Farnborough and died in Cambridge Military Hospital, Aldershot, from injuries when he struck his head against a bath when he apparently tripped over a rug and fell at his home.

He was serving at RAF Turnhouse and died in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary from a cerebral laceration and fractured skull sustained when he was knocked down by a motor car.

He was serving as a Staff Officer within the Directorate of Operations and Intelligence when he died in St. Mary’s Hospital, London, following an operation.  A post-mortem found that he had pieces of bone embedded in his lungs as a result of wounds sustained during WW1.

He was killed in an air accident at Hendon whilst flying as the observer to Fg Off Robert Lea in Hart, K2983 of No 600 Sqn.  The aircraft suffered an engine failure on take off and Lea turned back to the airfield, but stalled the aircraft and crashed.  Sqn Ldr Collett was knocked unconscious and died in the subsequent fire.

He was seriously injured whilst flying Fairey IIIF, S1860 of RAF Hal Far Station Flt on 17 Jul 1934.  He made a heavy landing, causing the undercarriage to break, the aircraft veered off the runway, hit a flare and burst into flames.  He died of his injuries four days later.  His crew member, LAC L C Tite was only slightly injured.  He is buried in Malta (Capuccini) Naval Cemetery.

He was killed in Handley-Page W10, G-EBMM “Youth of New Zealand” of Sir Alan Cobham’s National Aviation Day Display which had been used in flight refueling experiment.  While flying over a field near Aston Clinton, a few miles from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, the W10 suddenly went into a very steep climb and then went on its back. In that position some part broke away and on crashing the machine immediately caught fire. Rescue work was impossible and the bodies were burned beyond recognition.

He was killed whilst flying De Havilland DH89 Dragon Rapide, G-ACPM of Hillman Airways, which hit the sea 4 miles off Folkestone in bad visibility and disintegrated. Six passengers were also killed.

A member of No XV Squadron, he was killed whilst flying Fairey Fox, G-ACXX (Race No 62) which crashed and burst into flames near Foggia between Rome and Athens on the third day of the Mildenhall-Melbourne air race.  The civilian owner of the aircraft was also killed.
