RAF Casualties 1919 - H


In the list below some non-commissioned personnel are shown with two ranks, the first is generally that shown in the CWGC Register whilst the one in brackets is that shown on their records or what it should have become on 1 January 1919 when the RAF introduced a new rank/classification structure for non-commissioned personnel.  Where only one rank is shown this appears on both the CWGC register and the service records.

He was killed whilst flying DH4, F5743 of  No. 1 Communication Sqn, which dived into an orchard due to bad weather during a flight from Hendon to Paris and is buried in Heston (St Leonard) Churchyard.

An Admin Officer, he was transferred to the Unemployed List on 18 Jan 1919 after serving at No 8 Stores Distribution Park and died from influenza and lobar pneumonia, he is buried in Ilford Cemetery.

He had been discharged on 28 Sep 1918 suffering from tuberculosis of the lung, from which he presumably died and is buried in Edmonton Cemetery, Middlesex.  Prior to being discharged he had served as a Batman at Otranto.

He was killed whilst flying Snipe, E6157 of No 30 Training Sqn (Northolt), which caught fire in the air.  In protecting his face, he lost control and the aircraft entered a loop resulting in him being thrown out and is buried in Ruislip (St Martin) Churchyard Extension.

An Electrician, he was on the establishment of the Dispersal Centre, Chisledon when he died from gas poisoning at his home, 5 Holly Grove, Summer Road, Edgbaston and is buried in Birmingham (Lodge Hill) Cemetery.

He supposedly died on this date but his records indicate that this notification was cancelled and he didn't die until the last quarter of 1919.  At this time he was on the strength of the Reinforcement Park, St Omer, having previously served as a Labourer with 84th Wing (Vendome).  He is buried in Morley Cemetery.
