Casualties - December 1919


The fatal casualties listed below are those shown on the Commonwealth War Graves Register as having died due to World War One, however they can be divided into two distinct groups.

The first group are those who were still on active service at the time of their death and the second those who had been demobilised but whose death was attributed to their war service.

Group 1 - Died on active service

LITTLEY, JIM

He was killed whilst flying DH9, D9868 of No 23 Training Depot Station at Baldonnel, which stalled and spun into the ground, he is buried in Ottery St Mary (St Mary) Churchyard.

COCKMAN, CHARLES BURTON BLENHEIM

He was serving with No 111 Sqn and was killed in a motor accident caused by the failure of the near side front ball race and is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery.

HOUGH, CHARLES

He was serving with No 12 Sqn and was found in a street in Cologne with a fractured skull and later died in hospital, he is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery.

GOODE, FRANK VALENTINE

He was serving with an HQ unit as as an Administration Officer and died from bronchopneumonia, he is buried in Leamington (Whitnash Road) Cemetery.

He died in Bath War Hospital from typhoid fever and is buried in Tonbridge Cemetery.

He was or had been serving as a Carpenter and is buried in Tamworth Cemetery.

He was killed whilst flying in Bristol F2B, H1551 of No 48 Sqn, which crashed after getting into difficulties at low level and is commemorated on the Delhi Memorial (India Gate).

He died in Toronto General Hospital following an operationresulting from injuries sustained in a motor accident and is buried in Listowel (Fairview) Cemetery.

He was serving with No 47 Sqn and died from Typhus, he is commemorated on the Haidar Pasha Memorial.
