Casualties - May 1918


The fatal casualties listed below are those shown on the Commonwealth War Graves Register as having died due to World War One, however they can be divided into two distinct groups.

The first group are those who were still on active service at the time of their death and the second those who had been demobilised but whose death was attributed to their war service.

He was killed whilst flying in DH10, E5446 of No 97 Sqn, which crashed following an engine failure during a climbing turn and is buried in or was cremated at Beckenham Crematorium and Cemetery.

He was serving at the School of Technical Training, when he died from bronchopneumonia and is buried in Halton (St Michael) Churchyard.

He was serving with No 216 Sqn and died from Bright's disease, he is buried in or was creamated at the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium, Manor Park.

He died from injuries sustained whilst flying DH10, E5446 of No 97 Sqn, which crashed following an engine failure during a climbing turn and is buried in Chislehurst (St Nicholas) Churchyard

He was killed in a flying accident, whilst flying Cuckoo, N6927 of No 186 Sqn, which stalled and spun into the ground, he is buried in Gosport (Ann's Hill) Cemetery

He was killed whilst flying in an unidentified DH4A of 9th Wing which stalled and dived into the ground at Mons following an engine failure on take off and is buiried in Mons (Bergen) Communal Cemetery.

TAYLOR, CHARLES WILLIAM CHAMBERLAIN

He died on the way to hospital having been shot by a member of the guard whilst serving with No 78 Sqn and is buried in Lugwardine (St Peter) Churchyard Extension.

He sustained serious injuries whilst flying a DH4A of No 1 Communication Sqn, which crashed on take off from Kenley following an engine failure.  He was extracted from the wreckage by his passenger, Maj-Gen Sir Frederick Sykes but died on the way to hospital and is buried in Sutton Coldfield Cemetery.

PARRY, REGINALD TOM

He was serving with No 15 Aircraft Acceptance Park and was killed following a stall whilst carrying out aerobatics during a test flight in DH9A, J592 prior to a delivery flight to France, he is buried in Welsh Newton (St Mary) Churchyard.

A Medical Officer, he was killed whilst flying in an unidentified DH4A of 9th Wing which stalled and dived into the ground at Mons following an engine failure on take off and is buiried in Mons (Bergen) Communal Cemetery.

He was serving with No 123 Sqn and was killed whilst flying Fokker, 8482/18, which collapsed in the air as it pulled out of a dive and is buried in Old Shoreham Cemetery.
