He was awarded the CBE for is work in the Far East.  Following retirement he joined HM Diplomatic Corps and from 1959 until 1971 was the Queen's Messenger.

"SOREL-CAMERON, Robert, W/C (32119, Royal Air Force) - No.20 (Pilot) Advanced Flying Unit

This officer, who has been engaged as Chief Instructor for over a year, has given valuable assistance and untiring energy in connection with glider and twin engine flight training.  A competent pilot, he has set a fine example to his subordinates, obtaining excellent results from all concerned, and has organized his flying training on sound and efficient lines."
