He was born in Warminster, Wiltshire and died in Burford Oxfordshire. Prior to enlisting in the Army he was employed as a Solicitor's Managing Clerk and Clerk to Commissioners of Taxes. He was severely injured (shell shock) at Delville Wood on 2 August 1916 and spent some months recovering after which he was posted to training duties, having been passed fit for Home Service. He is shown wearing 'Wings' in the above photo but attendance at Flying Training School, after WW1 is not evident.
