At Cranwell, he attained the rank of Flight Cadet Sergeant, represnted the college at Soccer and was awarded the Hyde Thompson and Humanities trophies.  He was the first ex-Flowerdown apprentice to become a Cadet at the RAF College and the first to graduate from Cambridge.
