It reformed once again on 1 August 1953 and  disbanded on 15 March 1957.

It briefly reformed as No 81 (Bomber) Wing in August 1939 but disbanded again on 18 September.

It was reformed as No 81 (Signals) Wing in No 26 Group on 2 June 1941.  By July 1943 it administered the Western Area Signals Offices at Worcester, Gloucester, Tetbury, Stroud, and Stonehouse, which provided facilities to the Air Ministry and Record Office with a staff of 22 officers and 646 other ranks.  It also administered a signals section, which comprised receiving and transmitting stations at Birdlip as well as standby W/T stations at Hartlebury, and Bodmin.  It disbanded on 30 April 1946.
