RAF Mechanical Transport - AP2782 - Group 3

BC = Bogie Centres. GC = Ground Clearance. MPG = Miles per gallon. TC = Turning Circle. WB = Wheelbase.

RAF (Stores) Ref Nos were not given in this document but where they are shown, they have been assumed from later versions of AP2782.  This edition also did not include photos so these have been added from AP2782A.  When a vehicle appears in more than one edition of AP2782, the technical details have been assembled from all available data.

'Tructors' - General information

There were basically standard Ford models incorporating the following main modifications: -
  1. Shorter wheelbase, by cutting a section out of the frame ahead of the front rear spring bracket.
  2. Fitment of Warford 2-speed auxiliary gearbox.
  3. Fitment of vacuum tank and single line vacuum brake connection.  Trailer brakes controlled by valve fitted to foot brake.
  4. Open truck type body with hinged tailboard.
  5. RAF drawbar gear.
  6. Tail lamp adapted to take RAF trailer connection.
  7. (On Reynolds Tructor) Fitment of larger petrol tank, capacity 30 gallons, between cab and body
