This Group was formed on 12 April 1926 by redesignating No 7 Group to control all Army Co-operation work within Inland Area with the following personnel being transferred from No 7 Group: -

On 24 August 1939 the RAF Component of the BEF was formed from Personnel and the operational elements of No 22 Group, which resulted in a number of changes.  Its role was to the support the Air Component of the BEF by co-ordinating Army Co-operation work, to co-ordinate the training of pilots for new squadrons to be formed, reserve pilots and crews for unit's aircraft and was responsible for training up to war efficiency new squadrons and for making necessary arrangements for their movement to the theatre of war.
