Richard Llewellyn Roger ATCHERLEY (16140)

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Sgt.  On graduating he was awarded the R M Groves Memorial Prize.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 4 Apr 1959 in the rank of AM.

 

Sir Richard Hugh BARLOW (16141) Bt, AFC

He entered the RAF College in 1922 and was a member of B Sqn.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 31 Jul 1935 in the rank of Wg Cdr.

He was killed in a plane crash in Ecuador on 3 Dec 1946

John Edward Wymer BOWLES (16139) DFC

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Sgt.  He also represented the college in Fencing and Hockey.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 21 Nov 1947 in the rank of Gp Capt.

 

Sir Dermot Alexander BOYLE (16138) GCB, KCVO, KBE, AFC

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Sgt.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on N/A in the rank of MRAF.

He was a graduate of the Imperial Defence College, the RAF Staff College and the Central Flying School.

Hugh Hamilton BROOKES (16137) CB, CBE, DFC

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Cricket and Rugby.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 10 Nov 1958 in the rank of AVM.

He was a graduate of the RAF Staff College and the Central Flying School.

Frank Maynard DENNY (16130)

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Soccer.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 21 Dec 1946 in the rank of Gp Capt.

 

John Colquhoun DON ()

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn.  He also represented the college in Athletics.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He resigned his permanent commission on 30 Sep 1925 in the rank of Plt Off.

 

William Osmond Du PORT ()

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Under Officer.  He also represented the college in Athletics, Cricket, Rugby and Hockey.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He was killed in a flying accident on 1 Sep 1926 in the rank of Fg Off.

He was killed in a flying accident at Hinaidi, whilst flying DH9A, xxxxx of No 55 Sqn.  His gunner, LAC W A Pearse was seriously injured and died the following day.  He is buried in Ma'asker Al Raschid RAF Cemetery.

Aubrey William ELIAS ()

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn.  On graduating he was awarded the Abdy Gerrard Fellows Memorial Prize.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He died in service on 23 Sep 1936 in the rank of Flt Lt.

He probably died whilst serving in India.

Jack Terence EVE ()

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He was killed in a flying accident on 25 May 1925 in the rank of Plt Off.

He was killed piloting Fawn, J7226 of No 100 Sqn near Spittlegate and his crew, AC1 George Edward Bruce and AC2 Percival Thomas Sharpe were both injured.

Alexander Bruce KAY ()

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Cricket.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He was killed in a flying accident on 4 Jul 1928 in the rank of Fg Off.

He was severely injured in a flying accident at Mosul in Iraq whilst flying an unidentified Bristol Fighter of No 6 Sqn on 2 Jul 1928, when he hit telegraph wires near the Mosul bridge and crashed into the River Tigris.  He later died of his injuries an is buried in Ma'asker Al Raschid RAF Cemetery.  His passenger LAC A H Bolton was injured and later died.

Francis William Macdonald MATTHEWS ()

He entered the RAF College in 1922 and was a member of B Sqn.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He resigned his permanent commission on 18 Apr 1928 in the rank of Fg Off.

 

Joseph Herbert McCarthy REYNOLDS (16132) CBE

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 20 Jan 1954 in the rank of Gp Capt.

 

John Alexander Thomson RYDE (16124) AFC

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Cricket.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 17 Nov 1945 in the rank of Gp Capt.

 

Guy Neil John Jackson STANLEY TURNER (16136) CBE

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Sgt.  He also represented the college in Athletics.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 2 Mar 1953 in the rank of Gp Capt.

 

Leslie Robert Watson TILLARD ()

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 7 May 1936 in the rank of Flt Lt.

 

Henry Richard Danvers WAGHORN () AFC

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Under Officer.  He also represented the college in Athletics and Rugby.  On graduating he was awarded the Sword of Honour.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He was killed in a flying accident on 7 May 1931 in the rank of Flt Lt.

He won the Schneider Trophy in 1929.

James WARBURTON (16134)

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Fencing.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He retired on 6 Sep 1953 in the rank of A/Cdre.

 

Cecil Stanley Marshall WOODE ()

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Athletics and Soccer.

He was commissioned on 31 Jul 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 26 Aug 1924.  He was killed in a flying accident on 27 Feb 1925 in the rank of Plt Off.

He was killed in a flying accident at Bircham Newton, whilst flying Avro 504K, H3083 of No 99 Sqn.  His passenger, AC1 Ernest Forrester was seriously injured.

Gerald Hamilton LOUGHNAN (16142)

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Athletics and Soccer.

He was commissioned on 31 Oct 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 2 Dec 1924.  He was killed on active service on 11 Feb 1944 in the rank of Wg Cdr.

He was probably killed whilst flying in Defiant I, DS154 of No 25 AACU, which crashed near Eastleigh.  He is buried in Nairobi War Cemetery.

Paul McKenna TERRY (16159) AFC

He entered the RAF College in 1922, was a member of B Sqn.  He also represented the college in Athletics.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He was cashiered by order of a General Court Marshal on 18 Jul 1933 in the rank of Flt Lt.

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Cricket, Hockey and Rugby.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 3 Jul 1946 in the rank of Gp Capt.

 

Norman Stuart ALLINSON (16144)

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 17 Sep 1956 in the rank of AVM.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 6 Feb 1964 in the rank of ACM.

He was a graduate of the Imperial Defence College, the RAF Staff College and the Central Flying School.

Sir George Robert BEAMISH (16146) KCB, CBE

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Under Officer.  He also represented the college in Athletics, Cricket, Rugby, Hockey and Soccer.  On graduating he was awarded the Sword of Honour.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 7 Feb 1958 in the rank of AM.

George Braithwaite BEARDSWORTH (16147) CB MIMech E, FRAeS

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Sgt.  He also represented the college in Rugby.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on xx xxx 1957 in the rank of AVM.

He was a graduate of the RAF Staff College.

John Hunter McNeill CAMPBELL (16148)

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of A Sqn.  He also represented the college in Athletics.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 16 Apr 1960 in the rank of Sqn Ldr.

George Frederick Gardner COX (16150)

He entered the RAF College in 1923 and was a member of A Sqn.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He was dismissed from the service by sentence of a General Court Marshal on 3 Dec 1926 in the rank of Plt Off.

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Soccer.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 3 Jul 1954 in the rank of Gp Capt.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 4 Apr 1960 in the rank of AVM.

He was a graduate of the Imperial Defence College and the RAF Staff College.

Stephen Haistwell HARDY (16153) CBE, ADC,

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Cricket, Hockey and Soccer.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He died in service on 8 Apr 1945 in the rank of A/Cdre.

He died in Rauceby Hospital whilst Commandant at Cranwell following a long illness

Sydney Herbert Verder HARRIS (16154) CBE

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  On graduating he was awarded the R M Groves Memorial Prize.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 1 Jul 1955 in the rank of Gp Capt.

He was a graduate of the RAF Staff College and the Central Flying School.

Montague Ernest de Lannoy HAYES (16156)

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of A Sqn.  He also represented the college in Soccer.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 12 May 1926 in the rank of Plt Off.  However he was recalled to service on 3 Sep 1939, reverting to the retired list on 16 Dec 1946 in the rank of Sqn Ldr.

 

Guy Wingfield HAYES (16155) OBE

He entered the RAF College in 1923 and was a member of B Sqn.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 2 Apr 1957 in the rank of A/Cdre.

 

Alexander Hutchinson MONTGOMERY (16157) CBE

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of B Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Cpl.  He also represented the college in Fencing and Hockey.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He retired on 16 Feb 1946 in the rank of A/Cdre.

He was a graduate of the RAF Staff College.

Ian Malcolm SCOTT (16158)

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Under Officer.  He also represented the college in Soccer.

He was commissioned on 17 Dec 1924 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 20 Jan 1925.  He was killed in a flying accident on 25 Mar 1925 in the rank of Plt Off.

He was killed in a flying accident at Caterham whilst piloting Snipe, E6792 of No 32 Sqn, when he flew into trees during low flying.

Henry Edward NOWELL (16160) CB, OBE

He entered the RAF College in 1923, was a member of A Sqn and attained the rank of Flt Cdt Sgt.

He was commissioned on 9 Mar 1925 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 7 Apr 1925.  He retired on 15 Aug 1955 in the rank of A/Cdre.

 

Francis Stafford O'HANLON (16161)

He entered the RAF College in 1923 and was a member of B Sqn.

He was commissioned on 12 Mar 1925 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 7 Apr 1925.  He was killed in a flying accident on 13 Jun 1933 in the rank of Flt Lt.

He was killed whilst flying a Vildebeest which crashed shortly after take off from Farnborough and burst into flames after going through the wall of a workshop at the Mechanical Warfare Experimental Establishment.

Neil Coull WALKER (16162)

He entered the RAF College in 1923 and was a member of B Sqn.

He was commissioned on 17 Mar 1925 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 7 Apr 1925.  He died in service on 7 Apr 1925 in the rank of Plt Off.

He was flying in a Virginia, J7439 of No 9 Sqn which ran into fog at 11:00.  The pilot (Plt Off Eric Alfred Claude Bushell) put the aircraft down in the sea off Birchington and was slightly injured.  AC2 Horace Eustace Grellis was seriously injured but Walker and AC1 Mills were reported missing believed drowned.

Alfred Henry WILLETTS (16163) DSO

He entered the RAF College in 1923 and was a member of B Sqn.

He was commissioned on 16 May 1925 in the rank of Pilot Officer which was gazetted on 9 Jun 1925.  He retired on 24 Jan 1946 in the rank of Gp Capt.

He was a graduate of the RAF Staff College.
