his retirement from the RAF he worked on a number of Development Corporations
for New Towns start with Corby (1954 - 67) and then moving to Milton Keynes
(1967 - 68), Peterborough (1968 - 69), Northampton (1969) and finally Central
Lancashire (1971 -72).
Citation for the award of the Air Force Cross
"WARDLE, Alfred Randles, F/L
This officer has been in the Float Plane Test Flight since November 1925, and has commanded the Flight since May 1927. During this time he has flown over 30 different types of seaplanes and has personally carried out most of the important test flying.
Flight Lieutenant Wardle’s work has been invaluable, and he has shown unfailing qualities of pluck and devotion to duty throughout a long period of exacting and responsible service."
