In 1949 he was deputy commander of the integrated HQ set up to control operations for the Berlin Airlift.  From 1957 to 1958, he was Deputy Co-ordinator for the International Geophysical Year in Brussels and from 1959 was the Director of the UK Committee for UNICEF.  He died in the General Hospital, Amersham.
