Whilst undergoing training at No 22 OTU, he took part in the first 'Thousand Bomber' raid flying Wellington, N2766 and was flying the same aircraft the following night during the second raid against Essen.  On retiring he joined Basildon Development Corporation as General Manager until 1978 when he became Managing Director of the Docklands Development Organisation until 1980.
