‘The Flame of Love and War’

It is a 350 page novel, set in the lovely Suffolk countryside, at the time of the Second World War.  It tells the story of the young airmen stationed at Wattisham airfield.  The facts about their part in the war have been authenticated by the RAFBF; they are now part of history, as is the bravery of the young men that flew the Blenheim aircraft; the only bomber the RAF had at the outbreak of war, capable of daylight bombing.  The love contained in the title, is what turns the book into a novel, and is gently threaded through the fabric of the story, weaving a romantic counter balance to the horrors of war.

As former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshall Sir Michael Graydon GCB CBE FRAeS, writes in his ‘Foreword’ to the book: “It is a work of fiction but who knows how close it comes to capturing the hopes and fears, the tragedies and triumphs, of those who served at Wattisham, all those years ago.”

Almost unknown to the general public, these young men performed acts of bravery, that prompted Winston Churchill to write of them: “They were the modern day equivalent of the Charge of the Light Brigade, only they had to repeat their brave acts, many times over.

Their story needed to be told, this book does that in a way that is guaranteed to hold the reader’s attention. From the day after war was declared, when Blenheims from Wattisham delivered the first blow of World War Two, through to the suspense of the last page.  This is the first novel by Eric Vanlint, whose previous nine books have raised over £120,000 for various charities, and earned him an MBE in the process.

All proceeds from the sale of this fascinating story are for charity. The book should not be sold for less than £5.
